Volunteer With Us – Grow Your Community & Your Wellbeing: Lend a hand, gain a friend, and feel the difference.
Why Volunteer? It’s Good for You!
Volunteering is more than just giving your time to a good cause. It’s a two-way street that benefits both our community and you. Science and countless stories show that helping others is a powerful way to boost your own happiness and health.
The Wellbeing Benefits of Volunteering:
· Beat Stress & Feel Happier: Connecting with others and engaging in meaningful work releases endorphins, the brain’s natural “feel-good” chemicals. It can reduce feelings of loneliness, isolation, and stress, replacing them with a sense of purpose and joy.
· Boost Your Confidence & Sense of Purpose: Mastering new tasks, contributing to a team, and seeing the tangible results of your work can significantly increase your self-esteem. You gain a renewed sense of identity and purpose, knowing you are making a real difference.
· Connect with Your Community: Volunteering is one of the best ways to meet like-minded people, make new friends, and strengthen your ties to the community. It builds a support network based on shared interests and compassion.
· Learn New Skills & Gain Experience: Whether it’s teamwork, communication, gardening, or event planning, volunteering offers a fantastic chance to develop new skills or keep existing ones sharp. It’s valuable experience for your CV and can open doors to new career paths.
· Improve Your Physical Health: Studies have linked volunteering to lower blood pressure and a longer lifespan. Many roles, like helping in our orchard or litter picking, are also a great way to get active in the fresh air.
How You Can Help: Our Volunteer Opportunities
We have a variety of roles to suit different interests, schedules, and energy levels. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want a regular commitment, there’s a place for you here.
1. Help in the Kitchen Do you love cooking and creating meals that bring people together? Our community kitchen is always looking for helpers to prepare, cook, and serve food for our events
and groups. It’s a warm, social role where you can share recipes and ensure everyone feels welcome and nourished.
2. Community Orchard Helper Get your hands dirty for a good cause! Help us maintain our beautiful community orchard. Tasks include planting, weeding, pruning, harvesting fruit, and learning about sustainable gardening. It’s peaceful, rewarding, and a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors.
3. Litter Picking Champion Take pride in our local area by joining our litter-picking squad. We provide all the equipment. It’s a flexible role—you can join organised group picks or do a solo session whenever you have some free time. Every piece of litter collected makes our neighbourhood brighter and safer for everyone.
4. Youth Club Supporter Make a positive impact on the next generation. Our youth club provides a safe and fun space for young people. Volunteers help run activities, provide a listening ear, and be a positive role model. It’s an energetic and incredibly rewarding role.
5. General Hub Helper Be the friendly face of our hub! This role is wonderfully varied and could involve:
· Helping to set up and run activities and events.
· Welcoming visitors and making them a cup of tea.
